Year 10 Extended Homework!!!!

This is a two week homework- as I want it to be good!!! You are to choose a recent natural disaster in an LEDC. You need to describe, in detail, how it affected the people, property and infrastructure. You also need to describe how the country responded. This can be done as a powerpoint/movie/ text document. BUT must be posted on your blog for me to read by Monday 21st December.

Any problems....see me!!!!

UK population 'to rise to 71.6m'

Check out this interesting little article from the BBC website with predictions about UK population increase for the future. It talks about the effects of birth and death rates along with the increasing effect of migration. There is a very good podcast radio clip on it that is worth listening to as well. You should all now be well on the way to completing your Geography coursework. If you think you are a little behind with it or feel as though you would benefit from a one-2-one mentoring session then come along to our 'Geography Coursework Club' every Wednesday lunchtime in L1. Mr Eccles and MIss Sumner will be around to try and answer your questions.

Follow the link below to the 'Geography all the way' website and have a look at this important case study on Italy and its ageing population. If you have time listen to the short radio interview at the bottom of the page about the problems of an ageing population.

Year 10 - Population topic

Follow the link below to the BBC i-Player and have a look at this episode of BBC's Panorama. The programme looks at the route taken by 40,000 African migrants every year seeking a better life in Europe. It will give you a bit of background information about migration which you will study in the population topic.

End of an era

Mr Taylor is retiring this week from the geography department. He has, as our director of humanities, been an inspiration to pupils and staff alike. We wish him all the best for a happy and healthy retirement. Good luck Mr T!
